Car Cleaning Guide

Cars - some can live without them but many can’t. They provide us with the ability to travel quickly, accommodate room to transport objects and offer us a protective shield against an array of elements when driving alone or with company.

So, as they take such good care of us, it is only right to show how much you appreciate and love your vehicle.  Below you will find a detailed guide on how you can be attentive to your car.

Cleaning your car can be a laborious task, so be prepared to spend two to three hours - maybe more - to give your car that sparkling shine.

STEP 1:  RINSE

Rinse your vehicle with a
HIGH PRESSURE HOSE - it is not advisable to use a sponge during this stage as it can act as sandpaper, stripping off your car’s body paint.  If you don’t have a HIGH PRESSURE HOSE, don’t fret - a good quality hose with a strong flow will suffice.

Tip: Rinse all surfaces several times - water will wash off loose dirt and assist in dissolving heavier dirt.

STEP 2:  CLEANING INSIDE

Firstly, remove anything from the floor and the seats, including rubbish and foot mats - this is the perfect time to sort out items left in the door and glove compartments.  Vacuum the mats and leave them hanging outside whilst you vacuum the rest of your car’s interior.

Tip: If you’re a dog owner you may need to use a pet hair vacuum attachment to ensure everything has been lifted.

Now, with a damp cloth and mild detergent, wipe down plastic areas including the dashboard.  Use a specialist fabric shampoo to clean carpets and upholstery.

Tip: If your dashboard has a special finish it is advisable not to use chemical cleaners.

Finally, vacuum the boot's interior and wipe down the pedals with water - it is extremely important that you do not use any silicone- or oil-based cleaners on pedals, as they can leave a slippery residue.  Why not try
DIAMONDBRITE REPLENISH RUBBER DRESSING?

STEP 3:  PRE-WASH THE CAR'S BODY

Starting from the top and working your way to the bottom, wash the exterior of your car with a hose and gently rub it down using a soft cloth.  In a bucket create a solution of water and
DIAMONDBRITE TFR (ECONOMY) and begin to remove all the dirt and grime off your car, leaving the bumpers and number plates until last.

Tip: Remember to gently wash off the solution with fresh water.

STEP 4:  WASHING THE EXTERIOR

Now it’s time to get down and dirty using a solution of
DIAMONDBRITE CAR SHAMPOO and water.  A harder sponge can be used on hidden areas such as sills, but it is recommended that you use a soft CAR SPONGE to protect the car’s paintwork.

STEP 5:  TYRES AND WHEELS

Brush off as much dirt as you can when attending to the car’s tyres and wheels, then continue to clean using a scrubbing pad.  Be careful when you come into close contact with the rims and rinse the tyres and wheels thoroughly with water.

Tip: If you have an excessive amount of brake dust or heavy dirt on your tyres, you may need to use a chemical cleaner, such as
DIAMONDBRITE'S TYRE DRESSING.

STEP 6:  DRY THE CAR AND CLEAN THE WINDOWS

Using circular movements dry the car with a chamois leather.  This can take a while and your arms may begin to hurt, so take your time and don’t be shy of having a tea break from time to time.

Tip:  Cleaning your car on a dry, overcast day is the perfect time, as you will be able to dry your car before the sun does.

Using
GLASS CLEANER and a MICROFIBRE CLOTH, and using gentle circular movements, clean your car’s windows inside and out.

Tip: Never rub as this may cause streaks.

STEP 7:  WAX THE CAR

Ensure to rub wax
on and not in; this is a very common mistake.  It is always best to rub the wax on in lines, then buff off using a MICROFIBRE CLOTH.

Tip:  For an ever greater sparkle, use a clean soft cloth to buff it further.
