Back to Basics

A clean home is essential to good health and comfortable living. Whatever the time of year, it is always a great idea to get your dusters, vacuum and mop bucket out. However, it seems people are ever increasingly looking for shortcuts instead of tackling the problem at its roots.

Cleaning can be a time consuming task, but once you start segregating the big job into smaller ones, it can be a lot quicker and perhaps even enjoyable.

If you’re not a big fan of cleaning, why not put some fun into it?  Get the family involved and start a little competition between you, crank up the music or incorporate cleaning into a fitness regime.  Now you’re in the mood, let’s get cleaning.

If you want to thoroughly clean the home, it might be best to aim for a couple of rooms a day, but if you want to get the house back into shape, you’ll be surprised just how quickly you can do it.

While de-cluttering you will also be completing step two: tidying up.

Begin by organising what you want to keep, putting loose papers and important documents in folders, collecting books and placing them on shelves and so on.  Put as much as you can away, into the rooms in which they belong, and finish by shaking the rugs and making beds.

Once you’ve finished tidying up have a cup of tea and marvel at your work - it looks better already.  Now we need to combat the dust!

STEP 3:  TOP TO BOTTOM

Clean from room to room, starting from the top floors and working your way down.  Here are a few guides on the best cleaning practices for each room:
