How to Clean a Rug

Rugs can be seen as a quick and easy way of making a house look homely, but can be an expensive purchase, meaning regular care is required. This guide aims to share with you the best possible ways to clean, maintain and protect your rugs.

We here at CLICK CLEANING want to provide you with all the information necessary when it comes to neutralising pet odours, removing stains such as red wine, grease, fruit juice and the easiest ways to maintain that new look.

Sometimes we are faced with stained rugs and carpets, and when trying to find the correct solution in the cleaning cupboard, you discover that you have forgot to put it on the shopping list.  In the time of need we recommend mixing an equal amount of water and LAUNDRY DETERGENT and beat it until frothy.  With a SPONGE, gently rub some of the froth into the stain and wipe dry with a clean CLOTH.  This mixture is great for spot cleaning, but only when there is no other alternative.

NEUTRALISING PET ODOURS:

Pets are wonderful creatures to have in the home, but can leave quite a stench from time to time.  To combat these odours and neutralise the smell we suggest using PROCHEM ODOUR NEUTRALISER

REMOVING RED WINE:

•    Blot the stain if it’s new, dilute the stain with warm water and then blot once more;

•    Pour some milk directly onto the stain and blot then dilute with warm water and FABRIC DETERGENT;
•    If the stain is still present use PROCHEM NEUTRAL PRO-SPOTTER;
•    Blot again, rinse and allow to dry.

HOW TO REMOVE GREASE:

•    Blot as much grease as possible;

•    Use PROCHEM SOLVALL SPOTTER and apply it directly to the stain;
•    Blot and wash with a mixture of warm water and LAUNDRY DETERGENT;
•    Allow to dry.

REMOVE FRUIT JUICES:

•    Like red wine, you will need to blot the stain and dilute it with warm water;

•    Use PROCHEM RED RX on the stain then blot, rinse and allow to dry.

HOW TO COMBAT CHEWING GUM:

•    Pick up as much of the gum as you can using a CHEWING GUM PERFORATOR;
•    Some would recommend using ice cubes to freeze the gum, but a more time effective way is to use SELFREEZ CHEWING GUM REMOVER
•    Once you have sprayed the gum with SELFREEZ the gum will be easier to pick out without harming the rug fibres.

TOP TIPS / MAINTENANCE:

•    Once a month flip your rug upside down and vacuum the back of it;
•    Avoid vacuuming the fringes or tassels of the rug and instead fluff them by hand;
•    Ensure you rinse the remainder of any spotter or shampoo as soap residue can attract dirt;
•    Always test your rug before using any chemicals to ensure that colours do not bleed or run into each other;
•    Clean spills as soon as they occur.
