How Do I Choose the Right Floor Pad?

How Do I Choose the Right Floor Pad?

The colour of the floor pad indicates how abrasive it is. Using the wrong pad can damage the floor so it is important to know which pad to use for which job.

Generally, the lighter the colour the less abrasive it will be. For example, white pads are soft and great for polishing and black pads are used for stripping and deep scrubbing jobs.

White Pads

White pads are the softest they are usually used for burnishing and polishing clean and dry floors. They can be used on rotary machines and orbital scrubbers and should be used on machines of at least 300 -2000 RPM. Use for stone and marble flooring.

Red Pads

Red pads are slightly more abrasive than the white and are a good all-rounder. It is perfect for spray cleaning tasks like light cleaning, removing light scuffs and polishing, providing a high gloss shine.

Blue Pads

Blue pads should only be used for heavier scuff marks and for periodic cleans rather than regular spray cleaning. Used on surfaces like school corridors and high traffic arears which need a more intensive clean. Only to be used on lower / mid-range RPM machines of 100 – 500 RPM.

Green Pads

Green pads are perfect for wet scrubbing tasks like deep cleaning or light stripping. They can be used to remove tough marks and ‘knock-back’ polish before re-coating. They should always be used along with moisture as using the pad without water can damage the machine and the floor. It is re use with slower speed rotary floor machines of 100-200 RPM.

Black Pads

Black pads are the most abrasive and specifically designed for stripping floors, great for heavy duty wet stripping of emulsion polish. Usually used in combination with a water-based floor stripping solution to remove worn/soiled floor finishes or sealers. They can also be used to clean heavily soiled hard surfaces like concrete along with an appropriate cleaning solution. For use with a low-speed rotary floor machine of 100-200 RPM.
