Litter Pickers and Waste Collection Product information
ClickCleaning stocks a practical range of litter pickers and waste collection tools for anyone who needs to collect rubbish safely and efficiently. Whether you're a council worker, volunteer group, school caretaker, or business owner keeping your premises tidy, we've got the right tools to make the job easier and safer.
Nobody enjoys bending down to pick up other people's rubbish, especially when it might be sharp, dirty, or just plain unpleasant. That's where a decent
litter picker comes in - it keeps you upright, gives you a proper grip on awkward items, and means you don't have to touch anything nasty directly.
Our range covers the basics you actually need: adjustable trigger litter pickers that can handle tricky items like broken glass and needles, standard trigger models for everyday litter collection, and those brilliant waste sack holders that keep your bin bags open so you can work with both hands free.
The SYR Adjustable Trigger Litter Picker is our premium model at 80cm long. What makes it special is the adjustable claw that rotates 180 degrees - brilliant for getting at items from awkward angles or picking up dangerous stuff like needles and glass shards safely. It's made from lightweight aluminium with a rubberised grip, so it won't wear you out during long collection sessions but it's tough enough for daily professional use.
The standard Trigger Style Litter Picker at 85cm gives you that bit of extra reach, which is handy for roadside work or when you need to stay well back from
what you're collecting. It's got the same reliable trigger mechanism but without the rotating claws - perfect for straightforward litter collection where you don't need the fancy adjustable features.
Both models use the same basic principle: squeeze the trigger and the claws close to grip whatever you're after. The trigger gives you much better control than those old-fashioned scissor-grip pickers, and the extended length means less bending and stretching.
Now, here's where the Handy Hoop Waste Sack Holder comes into its own. Anyone who's tried to fill a bin bag while using a litter picker knows the frustration - the bag keeps collapsing, blowing shut in the wind, or you need someone else to hold it open. The Handy Hoop solves all that. It's a simple plastic hoop, 355mm across, that clamps onto any standard refuse sack and holds it wide open.
The clever bit is the hinged design with clips that secure the bag rim around the hoop. Once it's attached, you've got a hands-free collection system that stays open no matter what the weather's doing. The comfortable handle means you can carry it around easily, even when it's getting heavy.
We also stock the recycled version of the waste sack holder - works exactly the same but it's made from recycled plastic, which is good if you're trying to
be more environmentally conscious.
Using a litter picker with a sack holder transforms the job. Instead of stopping every few minutes to sort out your bag, you can maintain a steady rhythm. It's particularly good for volunteer groups and community clean-ups where people might not have much experience with litter collection.
These tools aren't just about convenience - they're about safety too. Broken glass, discarded needles, and other sharp objects are genuine hazards. A good litter picker with adjustable claws means you can handle these safely without any risk of cuts or needle stick injuries.
The equipment is built to last. The aluminium construction on the pickers means they're light but strong, and the trigger mechanisms are designed for
thousands of operations. The sack holders are made from tough plastic that won't crack or break under normal use.
Maintenance is straightforward - keep the moving parts clean and occasionally oil the hinges and trigger mechanisms. Store them somewhere dry and they'll serve you well for years.
For councils, contractors, and anyone doing regular litter collection, having the right tools makes an enormous difference to productivity and job satisfaction. Your staff or volunteers can cover more ground, work more safely, and finish less tired.
Whether you're tackling a one-off community clean-up, maintaining business premises, or running professional cleaning operations, the right litter picking
equipment turns an unpleasant chore into a manageable task.

Litter Pickers and Waste Collection FAQs
What's the difference between the SYR adjustable and standard trigger pickers?
The main difference is the claw system. The SYR Adjustable has claws that rotate 180 degrees, so you can approach items from different angles - really useful for picking up needles, glass, or anything that's stuck in an awkward position.
The standard trigger picker has fixed claws, which are fine for general litter but won't give you that precision handling. The SYR is 80cm long whilst the standard model is 85cm, so you get a bit more reach with the basic version.
If you're dealing with potentially dangerous items or need precision pickup, go for the SYR. For routine litter collection, the standard trigger picker does the job perfectly well and costs less.
How do I choose the right length?
It mostly comes down to your height and what you're collecting. The 80cm SYR model suits most people and gives good balance between reach and control. The 85cm standard picker gives you that extra reach, which is handy for roadside work or if you're tall.
Longer isn't always better - if it's too long for you, it becomes awkward to handle and you'll get tired quicker. Think about where you'll be using it too. Tight spaces like alleyways might need the shorter model for better manoeuvrability.
What can I safely pick up with these tools?
Pretty much any normal litter - bottles, cans, food wrappers, cigarette ends, small branches. The SYR adjustable model is particularly good for dangerous items like broken glass, needles, and sharps because you can position the claws precisely.
Don't try to pick up anything too heavy (over a couple of kilos) as you might damage the mechanism. Very hot items or anything that might be chemically contaminated should be left for specialist collection.
The key is to assess each item before you grab it - if it looks dodgy, take extra care or get proper help.
How do the waste sack holders work?
They're brilliantly simple. The Handy Hoop opens up, you thread your bin bag through and clamp it shut with the clips around the rim. Now you've got a bag that stays wide open and won't collapse or blow shut in the wind.
The handle lets you carry it around easily, and because both your hands are free, you can use your litter picker much more efficiently. No more stopping every few minutes to sort out a collapsed bag.
They work with any standard refuse sack and the 355mm diameter gives you plenty of room to aim into.
Do I need both a picker and sack holder?
You don't need both, but they work brilliantly together. If you're doing a quick tidy-up, just the picker might be enough. But for proper litter collection sessions, especially if you're working alone, the sack holder makes a huge difference to your productivity.
Think of it this way - without the sack holder, you're constantly fighting with the bag. With it, you can focus on the actual collecting. For community groups and regular users, the combination is definitely worth it.
How long will these tools last?
With reasonable care, years. The aluminium construction on the pickers is tough but light, and the trigger mechanisms are built for heavy use. The sack holders are made from robust plastic that won't crack under normal conditions.
Keep them clean, occasionally oil any moving parts, and store them somewhere dry. Avoid leaving them outside in all weathers if you can help it.
We've had customers using the same pickers for 5+ years without problems.
Are these suitable for professional use?
Absolutely. The SYR models in particular are used by councils, contractors, and cleaning companies across the UK. They're built to handle daily use and the safety features make them ideal for dealing with the nasty stuff you find in commercial cleaning.
The sack holders are equally professional - much more efficient than trying to manage bags manually when you're working to deadlines.
Can I use these for garden tidying as well as litter?
Yes, they're great for garden use. Perfect for picking up pruned branches, collecting leaves, dealing with thorny materials, or clearing up after garden parties. The extended reach saves your back and the precision grip means you can be selective about what you collect.
Just remember they're designed for relatively light materials - don't try to pick up huge branches or heavy garden waste.
What about spare parts and repairs?
The tools are designed to be reliable rather than repairable - the cost of replacement parts usually isn't worth it compared to a new tool. That said, they're built to last so you shouldn't need to worry about repairs for years.
If you do have problems, contact us and we'll see what we can do.
Which model should I buy for a community group?
For community groups, we'd usually recommend the standard trigger picker with a couple of sack holders. It gives you the reach and reliability you need without the premium cost of the adjustable model.
If you're likely to encounter needles or broken glass (unfortunately common in some areas), then the SYR adjustable model is worth the extra investment for the safety benefits.
Consider getting a mix - maybe one SYR adjustable for the experienced volunteers to handle any dodgy items, and standard pickers for everyone else.
